Q.1: "What is the difference between the Second and Third editions of Let's Go?"

There are really too many differences to mention them all here, but you will notice:

  • More vocabulary: To help children learn more vocabulary, not only language is recycled throughout the book, but words are taught in groups and categories to aid learning.
  • Better structure: Students start lessons by first learning words. Then they put them into complete sentences, and finally they learn question and answers.
  • Advanced language-building features: Language is effectively recombined and recycled to ensure that students get the best out of their learning.
  • Wide selection of components: Extra components to meet your students' needs (please see Series Overview, Available components )

Q.2: I use the Second Edition of Let's Go - will I still be able to buy it?

YES! The Second Edition still remains available for purchase in Japan. Some teachers have been worried that the second edition will no longer be available now that the Third Edition is here. However, at Oxford we realize that teachers want time to look closely at the Third Edition, and that thousands of teachers are in the middle of a Second Edition book, so the Second Edition will remain on sale for the immediate future!

Q.3: Why was the Third Edition published?

Since Let's Go 2nd Edition was released, the authors and editors at Oxford University Press have met hundreds of teachers using the course and gathered thousands of constructive comments regarding how the course could be improved to make it even better! A new edition allows us to address the comments and input of the many Let's Go fans in Japan, resulting in a better learning experience for students.

Q.4: Tell me about the Let's Go 3rd Edition syllabus structure.

  • Syllabus includes functional dialogue practice with communication games that encourage classroom interaction among all learners.
  • Gaps between levels have been smoothed out, which makes moving from book to book is easier.
  • Abundant vocabulary in each unit, giving you more flexibility in and out of the classroom.

Q.5: Who wrote the songs and chants in the Let's Go 3rd Edition?

All the songs in the Let's Go 3rd Edition are written by Carolyn Graham, originator of the Jazz Chants series, so they not only reinforce language in a natural way but are also enjoyable and easy to teach! To listen to a song, please click below:

Q.6: Do I have to buy new teacher's materials to move from Second Edition to Third Edition?

While it may be possible to continue to use audio materials and flashcards from the Second Edition, for the smoothest possible lessons and classroom management we suggest purchasing new materials. The 3rd Edition Student Cards, Teacher Cards, Audio CDs and Teacher's Books reflect the new art, track numbers, songs and vocabulary at each level that teachers have requested.

Q.7: What kind of components are available?

An unrivaled selection of components is available:

  • A Student Book with CD-ROM at each level.
  • Workbook (all 7 levels): Provides plenty of extra practice for students.
  • A Skills Book with Audio CD at each level providing additional practice beyond the workbook.
  • A Let's Go Readers Pack of 8 readers with an audio CD at each level.
  • Let's Go Phonics, a separate, 3 level phonics course that can be used independently or alongside the student books.
  • A Quiz and Test set at each level to help track and show your student's progress.
  • Test Center CD-ROM: 50 ready-made and editable tests and quizzes for all 7 levels

Of course, many items from the 2nd edition of Let's Go will still be available alongside the 3rd edition, such as Let's Go Starter, the current Let's Go Readers for each level, and also the Let's Go Grammar and Listening Activity Books for levels 1 to 3.

Q.8: How can I use the Student Book CD-ROM?

The CD-ROM comes in the back of the Student Book and features 36 exciting interactive learning games that reinforce and practice language and vocabulary. Just put it into a computer at home or school and you're ready to go!

Q.9: What is the difference between Let's Go Starter and Let's Begin?

While Let's Go Starter focuses on alphabet learning, Let's Begin serves as an entry point prior to Let's Go Level 1 by following the universal Let's Go series structure and format. Let's Begin, leveled below Let's Go 1, provides an exciting additional entry point to English with conversation, grammar support, alphabet practice and phonics.
